Standard Precautions

  • Respiratory Hygiene/Cough Etiquette: Patients with suspected or confirmed respiratory infections should be instructed to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing, and healthcare workers should wear masks when caring for these patients.
  • Sharps Safety: Use of safety-engineered sharps devices, such as needles with protective shields, to reduce the risk of needlestick injuries.
  • Cleaning and Disinfection: Regular cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and equipment that come into contact with patients or potentially contaminated materials.
  • Waste Disposal: Proper disposal of potentially contaminated waste, including sharps and biohazardous materials.
